The images on this Web site have a lot in
common. They are the covers or come from inside
different books by the same author, Michael Lyons.
They are aesthetic receptions of the manuscripts,
attempting to mold the force of the material into
one unified gestalt. Or they are collages of story
elements to illustrate concepts or feelings. They
are grateful and mindful decorations and
celebrations of the pursuit of enlightenment. Each
of these artworks depicts a literary aspect of the
text. Some of the images take familiar forms, like
portraits or landscape paintings; some forms are
abstract flowcharts or maps. Others forms represent
philosophical concepts in direct aesthetic
ways.
Each of these images provides a view of the world
shaped by the writer / artist who created it. As
you explore this site, think about these
questions:
How might a book inspire an
artist?
How do artists represent
concepts?
Why do artists represent
energies?
What do they tell us about
feelings?
